A message from our CEO Stuart Murphy

Date: 20th August 2021

Stuart Murphy, our newly appointed Chief Executive Officer updates our membership on his latest involvements ,while sharing his medium and long term vision to represent the voice of our fans to the maximum.

“Hello folks,

I’m a now a month into my role as CEO here at the SFSA and thought it an opportune moment to notify you on my initial activity. I have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the team and building my knowledge base on the various organisational projects and priorities. It’s a varied and exciting agenda and an absolute privilege to lead the team here at the SFSA, and from the Board members all the way to the engine room everyone has been absolutely fantastic and supportive. I expect I’ve asked a good few daft questions but until I wade through all the topics and priorities, I expect there will be many more to come!

My immediate priorities have focused upon building relationships with our many stakeholders and establishing positive working networks. All of this crucial to help push our agenda forward with our critical partners and already I’ve had productive conversations with other fans groups, been involved in discussions with Fergus Reid and Paddy Hainey on our current review of Grassroots Football in Scotland. I’ve also been critically looking at how we can further increase the levels of membership in the SFSA. It’s a top priority of mine to ensure we always fully represent the diverse range of Scottish Football across all levels aiming to cement our position as Scotland’s largest independent Fans organisation with you at the heart of everything we do.

This week saw me opening up communications links with Ian Maxwell at the SFA, Neil Doncaster at the SPFL and Fraser Wishart at the PFA. I believe that forging these close working relationships will be crucial to the success of our aim to enhance the common good and the well- being of our national game. Leading an organisation which represents more than 70,000 of you, the fans, comes with immense responsibility and you have my word that I will always give it the 100% that you all deserve.

From mid-August I will extend those communication links into the political world as I continue to try and raise the profile of the aspirations of the SFSA, and I’ll update you all as soon as I can on what that will look like.

I also intend to introduce myself to my CEO counterparts in our sister organisation the Football Supporters Association in England and to Football Supporters Europe, and as the weeks go by I will update the membership on issues and my activities on a regular basis.

In amongst all of this I have been given a direct challenge by Andy Smith our Chair, to review all current activities of the organisation with a fresh set of eyes and base-line where we are, and where we want to go. Thanks for that Andy, I think I shall be busy !!

In the meantime my door is always open as they say and I’m more than happy to receive feedback or questions on any issues you may have. Fan insight will always be critical to the success of this organisation. You can always get me at stuart@scottishfsa.org or pick up the phone to me.

On a personal level it’s great to see fans back in grounds at long last with full houses at grounds across our country. As restrictions ease it’s great to see fans back at grounds but as ever, please look after yourselves and each other, stay safe, and hopefully we can all have an exciting and interruption free Scottish Football season.

Yours in Football,

Stuart Murphy”
