BILLY BREMNER MEMORIAL JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN

Are you and our other 80,000 members illegitimate?

Date: 5th April 2024

Following the debate in Holyrood about the future of Scottish football, the SFSA is working hard to ensure that your voices are heard at the up-and-coming round table in May (to which we are invited).

One of our biggest concern is whether the SFA regards your and our voices as “legitimate” or not. In a recent submission the football authorities made to parliament we can read the following:

“We believe in the importance of fan engagement and involvement and recognise that Scotland’s football fanbase is the lifeblood of Scottish football. We are committed to ensuring the fans have a meaningful stake in how the game is run in Scotland and maximising the involvement of legitimate and representative fan voices right across our game.”

We have the distinct impression that the SFA’s careful insertion of the adjective “legitimate” implies only organisations they want to work with as opposed to those who are a (very necessary) thorn in their side. We are entering the round table meeting prepared to engage and debate openly and honestly.  That said, it’s hard to do this if others round that table do not believe we should be there.  We think the SFA should tell us – do they regard you – and the rest of our 80,000 members, as “illegitimate?”
