BeGambleAware Launch World Cup Campaign and Toolkit

The SFSA are proud to partner with our friends BeGambleAware in supporting their new campaign to help fans avoid bet regret during this year’s World Cup.

Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, GambleAware, Britain’s leading charity working to keep people safe from gambling harms, have just launched a new campaign to reduce gambling harms that may otherwise increase due to the World Cup.

The tournament will be an enjoyable time for football fans and the public, but the unique moment may also increase gambling harms for sports bettors, particularly given the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and the upcoming winter, pre-Christmas period. With so much football happening, it’s easy to get carried away, so we want to ensure that football fans can enjoy the World Cup without experiencing the harms that can be related to gambling.

By providing fans with practical advice, tools and support, we hope they can enjoy the tournament without experiencing ‘Bet Regret’; the universal ‘sinking feeling’ that people may experience after making an impulsive bet, often when drunk, bored or chasing losses.
