Billy Bremner campaign update

Date: 16th April 2026

Billy Bremner statue appeal update from Bremner Legends Campaign team

The campaign  team wanted to give you an update on the progress for the campaign to get a statue built to commemorate Billy Bremner at the Raploch in Stirling.

The campaign team are very much aware that as the generations pass it becomes all the more important that the legacy of Billy Bremner is remembered. It is a monumental task to  raise a sum approaching £90k to get the work in place.

The initial launch of the scheme was a success and generated enough initial funds for us to get a blue plaque placed close to where Billy was born at Weir Street in the Raploch. The launch attracted  the media and the plaque was unveiled by two former Billy teammates Eddie Gray and Jimmy Bone.

The plaque has been a huge success and has attracted a lot of visitors in the past year and has led to the SFSA setting up a national scheme to recognises other football heroes across the country.

The next stages of fundraising

A Leeds United on line raffle is currently underway  and hopes to raise around £2500. A Scotland themed raffle will be held later in the year that will we hope raise a similar amount.

A Billy button badge has been produced and these are selling well and will produce a profit of around £500.

We are having to invest  in a speculate to accumulate strategy and none more so than with the  two events that we are putting on. The first is a Billy tribute dinner at Leeds United where we have paid the deposit and are hoping to raise £5000

In Scotland the following week we hope to raise a similar amount by hosting a I played for Scotland legends event prior to the World Cup and it has also a target of £5000

Other activities

  • We have used the political routes to establish stronger links between the cites for Stirling and Leeds short of what used to be a twinning process. A city cooperation agreement has been muted by Stirling Council.
  • Legends and Captains shirt signings have been made with 2 shirts 1 will be part of the Scotland raffle the other will be auctioned.
  • The CEO’s of the SFA and Leeds United have been contacted and we are awaiting their response as to what support they will be able to offer the campaign. We believe that it is essential that we get support from these sources to ensure that we meet our objectives.
  • Stirling Council have indicated that they will have funds allocated in their 2026 budget to support the infrastructure around the statue. We await further details.
  • 4 bottles of Highland Malt Whisky have been created by The Stirling Distillery and will be available for auction.
