Football Supporters Europe, the umbrella group for all of Europe’s national fans organisations has this week spoken out against Fan ID proposals.
This comes after the Portuguese government has ignored protests in their country over their plans to introduce a fan ID scheme to reduce anti-social behaviour.
FSE have said they will oppose any similar proposals across the continent, claiming that the policy is disproportionate, counterproductive and could reduce attendances significantly.
Such proposals have never taken off in Scotland, however Margret Thatcher’s conservative government almost brought them in during the late 80’s.
Fan ID policies have previously been implemented then ditched in both Poland and Belgium, while seeing attendances plummet in Italy and Hungary.
