Ref Support UK Supports SFSA Referee initiative

Date: 14th May 2024

We have been made aware of a great initiative by the Scottish Football Supporters’ Association, in which they are encouraging their 83,000+ members to become referees.  They have been running this campaign since the start of this year and tell us they intend to continue to do so throughout 2024.

The SFSA have been publishing a series of blogs about refereeing, making use of their Ops Director’s very entertaining book on Scottish referees to highlight some of the very funny stories from some of their top officials, involving the hazards they have encountered when refereeing the likes of Gazza and Ally McCoist and nailing the one about the teams referees support

Bizarrely, they are receiving no help from the SFA/Refereeing Associations, despite requests to them for support. We know from our members in Scotland that there is a shortage of match officials on a number of areas north of the border and we would have thought that any organisation that wants to help address that would be welcomed.  As far as Ref Support UK is concerned, we certainly do give the SFSA our full backing: it’s great to see Scotland’s major fans’ group doing this and we wish them every success.
