BILLY BREMNER MEMORIAL JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN
Date: 28th August 2024
With Scotland’s first fixture after this summer’s European Championships on the horizon, a return to Hampden Park to face off against Poland in League A of the Nations League, many fans will be wondering what the future holds for this Scottish side. When announcing his squad for the upcoming games, Head Coach Steve Clarke denied any rumours of leaving his role following the Euros and expressed his aspirations of taking his country to a World Cup, something that all of us as fans hope he can achieve.
The squad for the upcoming fixtures sees a return for Ryan Gauld, who will be aiming to make his Scotland debut ten years after his last call-up, while Liverpool’s Ben Doak hopes to make an impact after missing the Euro 2024 squad due to injury. Fellow uncapped players Robby McCrorie and Max Johnston are also included, and Tommy Conway seeks to add to his June cap following his move to Middlesborough.
Lyndon Dykes returns to the squad after recovering from an injury that ruled him out of the Euros, and Lewis Morgan retains his spot after being a late call-up to Germany. This is the first squad since Callum McGregor’s retirement, with Stuart Armstrong, Liam Cooper, and Ryan Jack all left out.
In addition to a refreshed squad, Clarke announced a coaching change, with Alan Irvine, joining as a replacement for James Morrison, who left to focus on his club career. Irvine will balance his Scotland role with his position at West Ham.
While we will have to wait to see what the future holds for this Scotland side, one thing that we do know is that the Tartan Army will be back and supporting the team in full force once again. You simply could not count how many times the Tartan Army were praised throughout the summer in Germany. Whether it was due to the behaviour, the joy fans brought to the host cities and towns, or for the sheer number of fans that travelled to support our team, the Tartan Army left a resoundingly positive mark on the country that hosted this summer’s competition. Immense support for our nation shown once again, by the best fans in the world.
This support is bound to remain throughout the upcoming fixtures, as Scotland embark on their Nations League campaign where they will compete against the very best of Europe, having qualified for the top league last season. So, whilst we leave the footballing side of things to the professionals, we, as your national fans organisation, are excited to see the Tartan Army back home, continuing their astonishing support for our team, hopefully pushing them through the Nations League and the following qualification stage as we seek to compete once again, in a major international tournament.
