BILLY BREMNER MEMORIAL JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN

The most important thing in Scottish football this year is….?

Date: 5th August 2024

It’s a table.  Not a league table, but a Round Table.

And on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th August, a group of MSPs, Scottish football authority officials and a small, senior team from the Scottish Football Supporters’ Association will sit around it and discuss how to improve the transparency, governance and accountability of our national sport.

For the SFSA, this government-led Round Table, a follow-up to the debate in Holyrood on 31st January this year, is another step on the long road to identifying and implementing improvements to the sport, as outlined in our comprehensive Review of the Game. Around the table will be different views, some rigidly against change, some interested in exploring new avenues and others keen to push the boundaries.  Nevertheless, we are sure that everyone will agree that Scottish football, while excellent in many respects, does have areas where improvement is not only possible, but also desirable.

To that end, the SFSA wishes to state unequivocally that it is our intention to work constructively with the football authorities, acknowledging that while we both have different starting points for the Round Table, we want to work together, without pre-conditions and respectful of all opinions, to improve our national game.

Stuart Murphy, CEO, SFSA
