Car parking outcry from fans
The first week of the season brought the usual excitement for fans across the country. But for fans at Aberdeen and Dundee United it brought an additional expense with fans being targeted by parking enforcement officers from local councils.
At Aberdeen fans were targeted for parking off road on grass verges and at United it was on street parking near Tannadice.
Fans were not surprisingly angry and in many cases being fined for parking in places where they had parked for many years.
With many of Scotland’s football grounds being relics of a historical age where they were build in or very close to city centres car parking is without doubt an issue that is and will continue to grow as a concern.
In a perfect scenario there would be an integrated travel policy in place that would allow fans to get to our ground safely and inexpensively. However, with they type of infrastructure and planning that we see in Germany we are left with no solution except to fine fans. Time for the Clubs and the SPFL to have a chat with the local councils?
