Premier Division
With a league winning margin of 4 points, Musselburgh Athletic went one further than last seasons 2ndplace becoming league champions over nearest rivals Hill of Beath Hawthorn.
However, despite winning the First Division title, this did not guarantee promotion to the 5th tier Lowland League. Awaiting them in the promotion play off was West of Scotland Premier Division winners Clydebank FC. A 1-1 draw at the Olivebank Arena saw the Burgh head west only to succumb to a 2-0 second leg defeat.
In a season that saw Musselburgh reach the senior Scottish Cup 4th round, they added further silverware triumphing 2-0 vs Kirkcaldy & Dysart FC in the East of Scotland League Cup final.
Hill of Beath Hawthorn player Jordan Tosh was our SFSA star performer with 35 goals (17 in league) [goals as of 1st of May 25].
At the bottom of the table, much like the English Premier League this season the relegated three were comfortably adrift of nearest relegation threatened Sauchie Juniors on 31 points. Going down this season was as follows Tynecastle 22 points, Edinburgh University 21 points and Luncarty 20 points.
First Division
As the team with the tightest defence, Camelon Juniors won the First Division title with 73 points. Joining them with promotion in 2nd was Bo’ness Athletic 64 points and 3rd Newtongrange Star 59 points.
It was no surprise to see the league’s top scorers having the best marksman, and our star performer Callum Macdonald of Bo’ness Athletic contributing with a whopping 35 goals (28 league).
There was last day drama amongst the relegation spots in a close fought encounter between Leith Athletic and Arniston Rangers. The permutations were clear Arniston Rangers needed to win, and Leith could get away with a point to avoid the trap door. Arniston flew out of the traps first half and raced into a 3-0 half time lead, seemingly securing their survival. However, football’s a game of 2 half’s, and Leith reversed the three-goal deficit to secure survival.
Relegation further followed for Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 16 points, Kinnoul 23 points and Arniston Rangers 30 points.
2nd Division
Armadale Thistle romped to the league title amassing a 13-point lead over 2nd place Easthouses Lilly MW, and taking the final promotion spot was Bathgate Thistle in 3rd.
Our star performer was Dylan Walker of Kennoway Star Hearts with 25 league and 31 goals overall.
With one less club in the league in comparison to the divisions above, Vale of 14th Leithen 28 points and 15th Tweedmouth Rangers 22 points were the unfortunate two. Harthill Royal in 13th were able to avoid the drop by 4 points.
