SCOTTISH FOOTBALL FAN AWARDS LAUNCH FOR 2017

  • SCOTTISH FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS ASSOCIATION (SFSA) LAUNCH THE 2017 NATIONAL FANS AWARDS
  • FANS TO DECIDE WHO SHOULD BE HONOURED IN THE GAME

15th December 2017:  The SFSA, Scotland’s first independent national football supporters’ organisation, which has achieved over 78,000 members has announced the second Fans Awards initiative that will see Scottish football fans recognise the best and worst in the beautiful game this calendar year.

Simon Barrow, chair of the SFSA, said: “In a very short period of time our membership has grown dramatically and it seemed only appropriate that we should give supporters across Scotland the chance to have their say on the big talking points for this year. The 2016 Awards proved a huge success.”

Voting starts today (15th December 2017) and ends at midnight on the 7th January 2018.  Votes can be cast by visiting https://sfsa.beezer.com/vote.

In the inaugural SFSA Fans Awards, announced at the beginning of 2017, Celtic and Scotland’s, prolific goalscorer Leigh Griffiths was named as Scotland’s first Fans Player of Year.

Aberdeen supporters were named as the country’s top travelling fans with Ross County’s Victoria Park rated the most family friendly ground.  Hearts’ Tynecastle stadium was voted the ground most away fans like to visit.

Amongst other awards made were Goal of the Year for Kilmarnock’s Souleymane Coulibaly’s 40 yard wonder strike against Celtic, Mascot of the Year for Partick Thistle’s shy and unassuming Kinsgley and Chris Sutton named the fans’ Best TV/Radio pundit.

The award categories include:

  • The Fans’ Player of the Year
  • Best Ref in Scotland
  • Worst Ref in Scotland
  • Least disliked opposition team
  • Favourite away ground
  • Best football pundit
  • Best journalist/blogger
