GreenVersity Premier DivisionThe GreenVersity Premier division saw Clydebank run out winners by a margin of 17 points ahead of Auchinleck Talbot. Gordon Moffats men seemed unstoppable only losing 1 league game over the season (losing 3-0 at home to Largs Thistle), an incredible achievement by the Bankies.
They went on to beat Mussleburgh Athletic 3-1 over 2 legs to head up to the Lowland league. Clydebank also had top scorer Nicky Little who bagged 23 goals in the league campaign. Congratulations to them.
Our pick for the star performer was Troon who had a very impressive season gaining an increase of 13 points from the previous season.
Unfortunately for Darvel on the other end of the table, a 3 point deduction wasn’t able to be turned around by Michael Oliver and his players which means they are unfortunately relegated to the first division.
GreenVersity First Division
Arthurlie won this year’s premier division by only 2 points over Rutherglen Glencairn and they will feel relieved as they had only picked up 3 points out of their last 5 games and ran it really close.
No hassle for Rutherglen though as the top 3 go up so Arthurlie, Rutherglen and Renfrew who sneaked 3rd on the final day of the season thanks to St Rochs drawing with Kilwinning Rangers meant that Renfrew were one of the 3 clubs heading up to the premier division.
Credit to Cumbernauld United, Vale of Clyde and Ardrossan Winton Rovers who all successfully stayed up first time of asking (Cumbernauld finishing highest in 8th).
Ashfield never had the best of campaigns only finishing the season with 9 points, conceding 116 goals and finishing with a goal difference of -81, they will need to strengthen a lot to try get back up after facing relegation this season along with Blantyre Victoria and Maybole Juniors.
Top scorer was Joseph Gillespie for Renfrew who scored 21 goals over the 30 game season, an impressive record.
GreenVersity Second Division
Huge credit must go to Neilston as we can all imagine how hard it is to get relegated, so to return at the first time of asking to the 3rd division as league champions is highly commendable. They confirmed champions status with a 2-0 win over Yorker Athletic on the final day of the season. They are joined by Whitletts Victoria and Muirkirk Juniors who only finished a point behind the Farmer’s boys.
Lanark United are our star performers award as they got promoted from the 3rd division last year and impressively finished 4th this season only 3 points out of a promotion spot, something the players and former manager Daryl Meikle (stepped down 4 days ago as of writing this) should be proud off.
Yoker Athletic, St Anthony’s and Craigmark Burntonians all face the drop into the third division after them all being away from the danger zone just the season before. Cambuslang Rangers survived relegation by 1 point.
Top scorer in the second division was Jordan Boyd who scored 32 goals over the course of the season for Whitletts Victoria.
