We all shout at refs and linos…. but how many of us actually now the rules (the Laws of the Game to give them their formal title)?  Here are a couple of questions from a recent online post from some of the SFA’s Refereeing Associations.  I tried to do the whole survey and got only five out of nine, and I’ve spent two years researching a book about Scottish referees.  Here are two of the questions I got wrong: see how you get on….

  1. A defender pushes an attacker who is in the penalty area and in front of the empty goal. The attacker loses balance, falls down and accidentally touches the ball with the hand. Immediately after that, the attacker manages to kick the ball and scores a goal.

    What is the correct decision and sanction? (Pick two choices)

Please select at most 2 options.
2. An attacker is inside the opponents’ penalty area when a goal kick is taken. The attacker does not make an effort to leave the penalty area and watches the goalkeeper and the ball. Once it is kicked, the attacker runs towards the ball to gain possession.
