DATE:21/7/21

The Scottish Football Supporters Association (SFSA) , Scotland’s national fans organisation has announced that it has added two new members to its Board of Directors with effect from 21/7/21.

Stuart Murphy, formerly Chairman of Dundee FC, who has a long track record of being involved in fans affairs, who has been a member of the SFSA for several years, has been appointed to take on the role of Chief Executive. He replaces Paul Goodwin, Co Founder of the organisation who will remain on the Board, but will concentrate on assisting the fledgling Scottish Football Alliance, as well as developing new projects for the organisation.

Stuart said, “ Now more than ever we need a strong independent fans organisation to lobby on behalf of the supporters who we know are most important stakeholders of the game. The recent outpouring of condemnation of the European Super League was a fantastic example of fans collectively working together to ensure that their voices were heard and here in Scotland it is essential that the football authorities, the Government and our clubs engage to ensure that we reform the game for everyone’s benefit.”

“It is a great honour to represent the fans and of course to follow on from Paul Goodwin who has dedicated so much of his time and energy for fans of all clubs”.

Stuart is joined on the Board by Fergus Reid who is currently a committee member of Giffnock Soccer Centre who adds his expertise to help develop a new membership category for grassroots clubs who we as an organisation believe need much more support.

Fergus said, “I firmly believe that grassroots football is one of the largest untapped ‘forces for good’ in Scotland. Thousands of young people, coaches, family members and guardians participate in this strand of the game. There’s a real opportunity to mobilise this group to ensure they receive the support they need while promoting the value football can have in communities across the nation. This is not just about a pathway for the most talented kids. It’s about offering football for all young people irrespective of the background or ability level. The SFSA is the ideal home for Scotland’s youth football clubs to provide them with a voice and I look forward to playing a part. .”

The SFSA is currently reviewing its membership criteria and will announce details of the changes in the coming weeks.
