Broxi Burgers No More???

By Donald C Stewart

A sketchy and humorous look at the outpourings of the great, the good and the not so good of Scottish fitba’ by Donald C Stewart. Readers are warned that if they take this seriously then therapy is available – just let us know where you find it so we can pass it on to others…

Following Rangers’ first leg win, dismal though it may have been against Jablonec – the glow did not last obv – the BBC’s Tom English penned his view which was that Derek McInnes had served up a stodgy 12-course banquet of huff and puff.

It led me to consider what else might be on the menu on the burger stands within the hallowed halls of Ibrox, given that stodgy fare on the pitch might well challenge the Broxi Burgers for the Ibrox faithful!

The Rangers might have to consider rationing treats on the way in, in case people get a good feeling before they are served up stodge in the middle of the park.

I wondered if along with a The Broxi Burger, they might get a midfield muddle, which is a pie, begins relatively tough at the back, but by the time you get to the middle, it’s almost as uncooked as some of the midfield offerings that Derek McInnes has managed.

Or would it be a misfiring forward line, which has seen a star at the front, but not much behind it, as a bun like the Emperor’s new clothes – all stardust and no substance. And would it be washed down with a cup not of Bovril, but of bogging bog water?

The start to the season for McInnes has threatened to unseat the Messiah and apparently threatened his long-term future. It is, however, a moment in time.

Rangers Football Club, it could be argued, are in a transitional period. McInnes is the man to sort out the long-term future and therefore as it’s a long-term future that people should be patient and await.

English is an engaging writer. He is also an engaging participant with his many spats with Michael Stewart on Sportsound. A particular highlight of my Saturday afternoon as I plug myself into my earpods and ignore everybody’s screaming, bawling and shouting that I should be out cutting down a tree or two in our back garden is to tune in and listen.

Culinary references abound in the game and no doubt this season will be no different from any others as we attempt to find the perfect Michelin-starred chef in a dugout?

Will it be the sainted Michael?

Has Jim Goodwin found a way of getting things through to the Arabs?

Is Stephen Pressley the John Major spitting image puppet who just liked peas? It is said that Pressley is an absolute hoot when he’s on his own. Just exactly what hoot the Premier League is going to serve up, is one that pundits shall continue to pontificate upon as each week goes by and I look forward to Tom English donning an apron and giving us more of the culinary metaphors as many of us are hungry for success.

In the meantime, I do apologize and I’ll get my coat, though having been at the Fringe again this year I have seen and heard a lot worse…
