Football Festival Time in Perth

Scotland’s World Cup journey has seeped into almost every bar, event and public space over the past two weeks. That included the Solas Festival in Perth, where the opening evening (19th June) coincided with the Morocco game.

Prior to the match, which was shown live and attracted a huge crowd, the Stables venue at Errol Park was turned into an early evening Fan Zone featuring verse from fitba poets Stephen Watt and Andy Jackson, a talk by Dave Scott from anti-sectarian charity Nil by Mouth, and a conversation with Hannah Clark from St Johnstone Women’s FC.

Then ahead of the game there was a combined panel discussion of football and identity in Scotland and beyond, joined by SFSA co-founder Simon Barrow. On the Saturday, Simon also introduced a lively session with Scottish football legend Rose Reilly, and sports writer and poet Julie McNeill.

More than just an arts festival, Solas (www.solasfestival.co.uk) is an annual welcoming space of music, ideas, discussion and wellbeing –  a place to recharge, reflect and rediscover what gives life and energy amidst Scotland’s natural beauty.
