Another story that caught our eye this week was the cost of football kit. With the likes of Adidas milking it in with “professional standard” tops at an eye watering £120. The standard top retails at £75 with kids tops at £55.
We all know that the actual cost of manufacturing is ridiculous low in places like Pakistan and Vietnam and that the mark up on these shirts is staggering. No surprise that Adidas AG gross profit for the quarter ending September 30, 2025 was $4.015B, a 10.62% increase year-over-year.
With Christmas just around the corner it means there will be real pressure on getting a shirt for hard pressed families. There is also the ongoing issue of fake kits which are available at market stalls and on the beaches across Europe at £20 / euros.
You can read the BBC investigation on Fake kits here which does not focus on the huge mark ups made by the manufacturers driven by the tribal loyalty of fans but spends most of the time talking about the fact a fake shirt might not be very good for your skin! Of course we know organised crime is behind much of this trade who capitalise on the fact that the manufacturers and the clubs etc are ripping us off.
A proper investigation has to start at looking at the whole story!

Our suggestion for fans is to buy retro kits which are just as cool and can cost as little as £40,
