If not fitba by Steve McGregor
I have to admit that despite football being my passion, occasionally I do enjoy some other sports. Last weekend I had the small matter of a wee golf match on the other side of the pond to consider. With a fellow Scot representing Europe it was a must watch finale that delivered great entertainment. Despite not playing golf and not watching any other tournaments, I was hooked and really enjoyed a great TV spectacle. Despite the raucous crowd that could easily have transported from a Dunfermline Athletic v Falkirk derby.
It go me thinking about what other sports I actually enjoy watching and just how much of that excitement is generated by someone representing the Saltire. I loved watching tennis in the Murray era and he alongside Nadal always looked like a fitba player having a go at tennis. But since he retired , I have not bothered that much and even when Wimbledon is reaching a climax it is no more than a passing interest for me.
The egg chasers as some call them or rugger buggers leave a lot of people cold but I have aways enjoyed the National team since the days when the king of commentators Bill McLaren talked us through the game with insight and humor in equal messuage. I do have to admit that I so even watch the Warriors game highlights on You Tube if I am passing through. I can even dabble in Athletics if a Josh Kerr or Laura Muir is on peak form but the reality of all this that the only thing that gets me out and about to watch boys, amateur, junior or the senior game is the excitement of football.
The other sports can have their moments (usually draped in a saltire) but fitba we all know nothing compares to you!
