It’s Scotland’s Climate Week and football fans can help

Date: 2nd October 2026

It’s Scotland’s Climate Week, and we wanted to use it as a chance to help football fans grow their climate confidence.

We know climate change can feel like a daunting topic, and it’s not always easy to know where to start. So here are five simple ideas you could try, whether you’re heading to a game or playing yourself.

Think about your journey
Heading to a match? If you’re close enough, could you walk or cycle and get some exercise on the way? If not, you could take the bus or train, or share a lift with friends.

Looking for some kit?
Before buying new, it’s worth checking what’s already out there. You might find the shirt or kit you’re looking for second-hand, while giving something that already exists a new home. Got kit to recycle – get in touch with us as we  send reusable kit to Malawi!

Take a refillable bottle
Playing yourself or heading to training? Taking a refillable water bottle is a really simple way to cut down on single-use bottles.

Ask your club what they’re up to
Your club might already be doing something on climate or sustainability, so why not ask? There could be opportunities for fans to get involved, or even for supporters and clubs to start something together.

You could take a look at initiatives like Trees for Goals for some inspiration. Your local Climate Action Hub is also a good place to find out what’s happening locally and what support or funding might be available. Or check out some other great stories from Growing Climate Confidence.

You don’t need to do everything. Pick something that feels doable for you, give it a go and take it from there.
