29th April 2020:  The Scottish Football Supporters Association fully supports the decisions taken in Scotland and elsewhere to close down football to help the authorities deal with and restrict the growth curve of the Corona virus.   The organisation also supports the call to use this period to restructure the league format in Scotland and has consulted with fans to quickly gather fast and essential feedback.

3250 responses were in received and fans of all clubs were represented in a balanced insight.

Andy Smith Chair of the SFSA said, As part of our recent research fans the message coming clearly from fans is that it is essential that the contribution made by them financially and emotionally to the well being of the game should be recognised. We were delighted that the Group set up to look into reconstruction will accept our submissions.

We say to the SPFL
“Now is the time to circle the wagons and protect our footballing family. Relegation now is unfair and not necessary”.

“There are currently too many unknowns to make meaningful decisions on the structure for our re-entry leagues and season, so hold back”

“Fans want the pyramid system respected and value football at the grass roots”

“Fans want real openness, fairness and transparency with no favourites or self interest driven cherry picking”

“Fans and Players need a permanent voice and input to key aspects of the game”

SFSA has had dialogue with many supporters right across the divisions who believe that the evidence clearly shows that football supporters in Scotland want larger leagues. The research did not focus on what preferred model fans preferred but looked at the wider aspects of reconstruction. Further research is planned.
