Scottish Football Supporters Association Launches City of Stirling Hall of Fame
The Scottish Football Supporters Association (SFSA) has officially launched the City of Stirling Football Hall of Fame, celebrating the area’s rich footballing heritage and honouring the players who rose from local pitches to the highest levels of Scottish and international football. The initiative is backed by Sir Alex Ferguson ‘There have been so many quality players coming from the Stirling area. This is wonderful way to ensure there is a legacy that can encourage the next generation.’
The Hall of Fame was unveiled on Friday 28 August at a special event hosted by BBC Sportsound legend Richard Gordon, attended by around 150 guests. SFSA Co Founder Paul Goodwin introduced the Hall of Fame concept — an idea developed with Jimmy Bone — which will recognise Stirling’s football greats through a permanent Wall of Fame at Forthbank Stadium and a dedicated digital archive at www.stirlinghalloffame.co.uk.
Five Football Icons Inducted
The inaugural inductees represent generations of Stirling’s footballing excellence:
Each award was presented by the Lord Provost of Stirling, Rosemary Fraser, who praised the initiative, saying:
“This is a really great concept for Stirling. Together with the other initiatives the SFSA are planning, it will draw football fans to the area.”
A Night of Emotion, Reflection and Pride
The evening was marked by powerful personal stories and heartfelt tributes. Duncan Ferguson, who collected his award in person, delivered a raw and honest reflection on his upbringing in Stirling and the extraordinary contrasts of his life — from reaching the top of British football with Everton and Scotland, to the challenges he faced off the pitch.
He said:
“Getting this award is really special to me as it’s from my home town. Being in the company of real footballing legends is such an honour.”
Richard Gordon also interviewed Ben Ramage, author of the ‘Bone Idol’ Jimmy Bone biography, and Dick Campbell, who delivered an emotional tribute to his lifelong friend Jimmy Bone while accepting the award on his behalf — a moment that resonated deeply with everyone in attendance.
Celebrating Heritage, Inspiring the Future
The SFSA is currently fundraising for a wider programme of heritage initiatives including:
These projects aim to celebrate Stirling’s footballing legacy while inspiring future generations of players and supporters. Fundraising events and more information on the initiatives at www.scottishfsa.org
