The wrong personality for progress by Denis Frize
There is no point in any team getting on the park unless the coach has the right personality.
I feel that Steve Clarke has the personality of a member of a silent order of religious recluses.
I watched the second half of Ecuador v Germany.
Los senores were one down. Yet with a never-say die attitude, they twice scored against Manuel Neuer, the world’s best goalie for the last ten years. No obvious plan, Just sheer determination and a real desire and hunger to win.
But they took their spirit from the exuberant European coach, Always running beside them except when he twice climbed into the stand to celebrate with the fans.
Two weeks ago I got the opportunity to address a question to the Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
I told him if he was the coach of his beloved Arsenal, he would be fired. in the two football seasons he has been PM, his party have lost 26,000 members in Scotland alone. If a football team lost 26,000 supporters…….
Nor is this the rantings of a Terracing Tam.
On three continents my teams have never failed to win all there was to win.
The first thing a coach must win is the confidence of the team.
There is a BBC Scotland programme ‘Sacked in the Morning’. I wonder if Steve Clarke watches it.
