| WET WET WET FOR HER TOO. CLYDEBANK v Tranent by Homes of Football
I’m always going on about Clydebank being the place I started my 60 year epic (I’m 37 years through it) OPUS “Homes Of Football”. I’d been up (from London town) to Kilbowie Park football ground (now-is-a gawd-knows-what-but-its-gone) to photo a certain pop band growing up around here. Apart from the Singer Factory, the Docks & Cranes, pubs including where older men played dominoes, including a bigger football club across the water, CLYDEBANK FC at Kilbowie meant most to The Wets. They hung out here. Were at home here. I LOVED MY VISIT IN 1989 and am forever grateful to the Bankies for…well, just existing really.
And so in the midst of Storm Boelo I get to go to that special place, again. To a ground almost within sight of Kilbowie-no-more.
Tranent FC, almost-unbeatable-Tranent (Lochee United did for them however in October) have travelled west for the Scottish Cup, in what is a veritable ‘non-League battle of giants’. One may well be in THE LEAGUE, as part of the 42, next season.
The volunteers are out, both Davids: Harkin & Brockett battling goliath Boelo to boot. It’s absolutely fabulous and you get a free bath. | |
