The Scottish Football Association have come out to say that Unfortunate and Exceptional are no accepted as excuses for “daein some thingmies wrang”.
Stranraer are the latest tae hae been “pit out the cup” losing out on a £200,000 bonanza which would have been theirs had they got to the last 16 to face The Rangers at The Ibrox.
Instead, the Queen’s Park (Not The Rangers) were the poor wee lambs as the opposition in the Scottish Cup due to Stranraer having fielded an ineligible goalie in their tie against Queen’s Park in the round of 32.
An immense disappointment to all the supporters, staff, volunteers and players, Stranraer officials added. It came about because an emergency loan for a goalkeeper, a 17-year-old from The Jam Tarts, Lyndon Tass, was available on the day of the game but had not been signed for the original tie which had been postponed the week before.
The Scottish Football Association have tellt people that due to their rule book, you cannot play people who were not signed on the date of the original tie and therefore Stranraer are oot the game, though no oot the windae.
It means that the club who could have taken that money and survived for two or three years on the back of it are not going to get the big bonus bonanza they hoped for.
Many in the Southwest club are more than disappointed, though the wailing and gnashing of teeth and greeting that would normally accompany such an administrative failure, has not led to somebody in the club being given their orders, matching or otherwise – they are similarly not oot the widnae either.
The Rangers, of course, faced a club languishing in the bottom of the Championship, rather than a resurgent League Two club who could have caused them a few problems.
There are a few in the Govan area who currently aff the extra medication at night because Queen’s Park (Not The Rangers) had proved to be the downfall of Philippe Clément, in a previous cup encounter had beaten the Ibrox club 1-0, thus ensuring that Clément’s tea had been sent packing.
Of course, Danny Rohl did not find himself in a similar set of circumstances this time round as he has steadied the Ibrox ship and they are ploughing on for what many hope and believe shall be a double at the end of this year. Should he bring cup and league success, given that The Jam Tarts had begun to falter, many feel that Danny Rohl shall have managed to slay the sainted presence in Parkhead.
Unfortunately, the Queen’s Park (Not The Rangers) did not pose much of a challenge and limped out the cup after a mauling.
Ironically, Queen’s Park also has a bit of previous for this, because they breached the same rule in 2023 and got turfed out a cup, so they had a degree of sympathy for Stranraer. Nevertheless, The Queen’s Park (Not The Rangers) have had a decent cup year, have already been in the quarterfinals of the Challenge Cup, where they lost a penalty shootout at home.
Reports that the SFA were influenced by Scott Brown hanging about round the back of the goal to see whether or not he could get his ninth goalkeeper in his managerial ship of Ayr United, were also unconfirmed by the SFA. Scott Brown we presume was unavailable for comment due to the fact we never tried to contact him.
