SFSA’s Fans Bank Initiative Launched

Way back in the In the early days of the Scottish Football Supporters Association’s formation, our Co- Founder Paul Goodwin who had been involved in all the major community ownership initiatives in Scotland, reached out to the Scottish Government to help fans. We are delighted to say that after a significant amount of hard work the Fans Bank got cross party support on its parliamentary journey and was finally launched today. Its first piece of business being a loan that will allow Falkirk FC fans become the biggest shareholder in the club.

Goodwin said, “ When I wrote the paper for the then Sports Minister in 2015, it was more in hope than expectation that we would get a scheme that would help facilitate the funding of Community Ownership plans for our clubs.

I am delighted that today , Scotland’s First Minister, Humza Yousef, officially launched the scheme. I am sure this is just the start of the next phase of community ownership for fans in Scotland  and we are already in discussions with 4 or 5 other fans groups keen to be part of this scheme.

First Minister Hamza Yousaf said: “Scotland has some of the most passionate fans in the world, with more supporters per capita attending football matches than in any other European country.

“We care deeply about how our clubs perform both on and off the field, but while fans may have great ideas for how their club should be run, they may not have the funding to do so.

“The Scottish Government’s fan bank will change that and give fans of all sports real power to help influence the future of the clubs at the heart of Scottish communities.
