Posted on 29th July 2026
The SFSA has issued the following statement following the details emerging regarding FIFA’s plans to sell stakes in the World Cup:
We stand with football supporters from across the globe who have already expressed their concerns regarding FIFA’s business plans for the development of the World Cup .We believe that there is a real danger that FIFA could start a process of the ruination of the football’s greatest tournament.
Like so many across the game, we are furious about the direction of travel and once again it shows how far they game has moved away from belonging to fans. We will examine the detail as it emerges, but we will campaign with other fans groups across the world to stand up to this attempt threaten the future of football for short-term commercial gain. FIFA RECENTLY REPORTED THAT THEY MADE $15BILLION at this World Cup which shows the direction of travel of our game.
We fully support UEFA’s statement. Every governing body, national association, league, club, supporter and stakeholder now has a responsibility to stand together and protect the future of our game. We will be today write to the SFA and the Scottish and UK Governments to ask they to add their voice to the many who are objecting to these mindless proposals that threaten OUR game.
